What is Yakima Salvation Army about?

Established in 1894, The Salvation Army Yakima Corps is the longest-running nonprofit in the Yakima Valley. The Salvation Army Yakima Corps collaboratively seeks to eliminate student food insecurities and hunger for families across the county, provide maximum opportunity to Yakima youth, and systematically move families out of intergenerational poverty and into stability and community.

Program Needs:

As we continue to expand services and programs to meet the growing needs of the Yakima community, our biggest needs continue to be food security support. Because of this, we are seeking:

•Real food donations.

•Monetary gifts designated to food security initiatives.

•Volunteer support of these critical programs.

Additionally, as we move to physically expand our services, in-kind and capital gifts to expand youth programming, our client-choice food pantry, and our food warehouse, will be vital to our continued service to the Yakima Valley.

As the economy puts even more financial pressure on our neighbors to support their families, The Salvation Army is a part of the solution, serving our community daily with food services.

•As many as 90 families visit their client-choice food pantry daily with no repeats.

•We are a provider for 16  school food pantries serving 775 students monthly.

•Our weekend backpack meal program provides accessible, ready-to-eat food for 35 students across two local elementary schools.

The Salvation Army Yakima is dedicated to combatting intergenerational poverty through Pathway of Hope.

•Pathway of Hope families receive one-on-one counseling, coaching, and wraparound services to help move them away from poverty and toward stability, wholeness, community, and security.

Project 700, our annual holiday shopping event, provides Seven hundred students with $100 for cold-weather clothing at Old Navy.

Youth Programs
Our after-school program provides a safe and enriching place for children to succeed and is one of the most affordable options in the area with student enrichment opportunities include focused tutoring.

•44 students are enrolled and rely on our facility’s after-school care.

Seasonal Support

•In 2023, we provided 9,116 Christmas toys and 1,030 Christmas food boxes to families in need.
